Can anyone tell me a good area to move to that has a good school distict, houses in the area of $300,000 and activities for children. My older daughter plays traveling soccer, so I would like to move somewhere that has opportunities in soccer. Thank you.

I'd be glad to help you if you gave me just a few more details. First of all, are you looking at Eastern PA or Western PA (I'd assume Eastern PA so you could still be near to NJ to visit friends/family). Next, are you looking for a suburban setting, an urban setting, or a rural setting, as Eastern PA has all three. $300,000 will go very far in most areas of the state, so cost-of-living won't be much of an issue for you.

I'd gladly recommend the North Pocono School District in Southern Lackawanna County to you. It's about an hour away from the NJ border just off of I-380 and is a blend of small country towns and suburban housing developments. The main "hub" town in the area is Moscow, which is home to the annual Moscow Country Fair, a post office, pharmacy, and the school district campus, among a few other conveniences. Just south of Moscow is Daleville, where you'll find a Shop-Rite grocery store and a surrounding strip mall area with fast-food, a Hallmark, a hardware store, gas stations, etc. You'll be roughly 20 minutes from Scranton, which is the region's "hub" city (pop. 70,000) and is home to nightlife, big-box stores, sporting events, concerts, etc. The North Pocono School District is very highly-praised for its academics, and I'd assume it also would have a great soccer program.

I hope this helps, and feel free to reply with some more detailed questions.

Thank you. We are looking for a suburban area. I love living in NJ but I can't afford it. I would like a nice house in a nice neighborhood, sports for my kids, and stores not to far from home. I am currently a p/t student. Is there a college nearby?

I just posted a new thread in which I started posting housing options available in North Pocono/Moscow. So far I've only done all of the homes in excess of $400,000, as I needed to give my fingers a break, but I'll be adding onto it with more listings under $400,000 as the night and tomorrow progress. There are colleges in the Scranton Area (University of Scranton, Penn State University, Marywood University, Lackawanna College, Keystone College, Baptist Bible College, Johnson College, and ITT Technical Institute). These schools offer everything from Associate's Degrees on up to Doctorates. I think the North Pocono School District sounds like a nice fit for you---the area is pretty rural, but there are a lot of reasonably-priced suburban housing developments in the area now, and shopping would be about 20 minutes away.

Scranton, in my opinion, is a very safe place to call home, there just aren't many "suburban" neighborhoods in the city proper (pop. 70,000+). I was also trying to steer you as near to the NJ line as possible for easier trips to visit your hometown. Here are two homes in the city limits that have a suburban setting for under $300,000:

403 Grande Circle, East Mountain
10 Rooms, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths
82' x 137' Lot
$299,000
3,100 Square Feet
2-Car Garage
$3,514 Annual Taxes
Located Near Lake Scranton

1521 Euclid Avenue, Tripps Park, West Side
7 Rooms, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths
0.26 Acre Lot
$250,000
2,500 Square Feet
2-Car Garage
Tax-Free Through 2011

There really aren't any hotels in this immediate area. There's a Holiday Inn just off of the Tigue Street exit of I-380/I-84 in Dunmore, which is only about a 10-15 minute drive from the school district. Scranton and its inner suburbs of Dunmore, Dickson City, Clarks Summit, and Moosic all have a bunch of hotels as well:

Clarion Hotel/Scranton
Comfort Inn/Clarks Summit
Courtyard by Marriott/Moosic
Days Inn/Dunmore
Econo Lodge/Scranton
Fairfield Inn/Dickson City
Hampton Inn/Moosic
Hampton Inn/Clarks Summit
Hilton/Scranton
Holiday Inn Express/Airport
Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel/Scranton
Ramada/Clarks Summit
Residence Inn/Dickson City
Sleep Inn/Dunmore

All would be a 20-25-minute drive or so from the Moscow/North Pocono area
