When I was 12 years old, I bet four weeks allowance (a dollar) on Bob Sattterfield to beat the aging Ezzard Charles and win the right to a championship fight against Rocky Marciano. I learned my lesson early on.
Last year, though, I won $500 (without putting up any stakes), coming in first out of 700 competitors in a free online promotion picking winners and point totals in Canadian Football League games. That took some of the sting out of the Ezzard upset.
At Evangeline Downs in Lafayette, Louisiana, I bet three times in a row on a horse named Tokeneke to place in the last race of the day. He paid off all three times, at pretty good prices, like around 7 or 8 dollars. Brought me above even all three days.
I've got Golden State to win the NBA title, at 17:2, but only a dollar bet. Today they're down to 17:4.
If you count lottery, a $20 scratch-off. At casinos I usually just do slots, usually less than a dollar a spin. Most I've bet on a single hand at a table game was $10
Largest Blackjack hands for me was about $400. Kept on doubling my stack on a $25 table. Largest single hand win was $50 roulette bet on a number (usually bet 4-5 numbers)
Unlike most people who likes to sit at tables for a long time. I go and gamble with $300-$500 and "expect" to spend it. If I happen to walk away on the plus side, I have no problem leaving. The house always win when you stay long enough. I have no problem playing just one shoe of blackjack.
think I bet around $300 (to show) on a single harness race and probably had a handle that day of about $2,000. Think my profit was less than a hundred bucks for the day but had a great time.
