Recently I have been getting lots of coupons in the mail or online at local chain restaurants including Ruby Tuesday, Pizza Uno and TGIF. It gets us in the door.
I make a point to ask the server if he/she gets many customers who use these coupons. The typical response is NO! Even though these coupons are sent all over town, few customers use them.
Are they embarrassed to use a coupon? Think they are too good to use one? Or think it is too much hassle?
Why, if you could get two meals for the price of one at a place you are eating at anyway, why not?

For us, three reasons.
1) We prefer local restaurants, not chains.
2) We have found that we can eater cheaper elsewhere.
And, because of those two reasons... we have reason #3.
3) We got off all those mailing lists.
The coupons - which we never used anyway - don't even get in our mailbox now.
Around here, a lot of those 2 for 1 deals require you to purchase two beverages as well. At $2.69 and up each for iced tea, that makes the deal less attractive.
Two reasons I don't use them:
1) I generally recycle the junk mail.
2) If I keep it, then I never seem to have it in the car when I actually want to go to the restaurant. I also refuse to keep a bunch of coupons in my car.
We eat out a LOT! ... but, never seem to have the right coupon/s available when we want one. I think the advertisers would be smart to make restaurant coupons available (alphabetically, by zip code) -- on a phone App -- The grocery stores could do likewise! The coupons would be marked by shoppers and then scanned at the checkout.
These would be a good Apps for an enterprising entrepreneur.

(Just noticed Ibotta (?) - It looks similar, but, seems to require specifying products in advance and then submitting bar scans and coupons for a rebate later -- Not what I had in mind.
Dining experience at a fast food joint - priceless!

Check bookstores (remember places where they sell printed paper) or the local newspaper. There is an annual coupon book for just about every city out.
