Cut the cord a few years ago. Contract expired on my smartphone last year. Only have internet and phone from the cable company, the only things out of the 4 on the list that I pay for.
Most middle class folks I know tell me they can't make ends meet. In other words their income is less than their needs for a middle class lifestyle.
Ends meet is a lots higher now days than 20 years ago. Back then I used a rabbit ears for my TV, there were no Smartphones and my telephone cost about $10.00 a month.
My brother spends about $120 a month for his wife and his Smartphone plan after spending $700 for a new IPhone. And $180 a month for his Cable TV, Phone and Internet package. That is typical and $300 a month that is part of the new "ends meet"
How about you?
I paid full price up front for my iPhone. I'm with AT&T's prepaid $45 (40 after autopay) plan for my phone, only other plan that you mentioned is internet, which is typically around $40. I don't have a TV subscription of any sorts nor a landline.
DISH/internet/home phone = $190
Acorn streaming yearly fee divided by 12 = $4.16
Cell phone just transferred to Twigby = $12 (Not sure what any other fees will be. Plan includes 200 minutes talk, unlimited texts, and 150MB data.)
Total = $206.16
We were paying $20 more, but DISH is taking off $20 monthly after we called and asked if they could do something for us. Hubby not in great health and home all the time, but he loves his DISH, so that's off the table for reduction. We have 4 TVs hooked up with 2 having DVRs, which pumps the bill up.
I use the home phone all the time because my mother is 1,000 miles away and wants to talk a lot. The phone doesn't require a modem, something else I like. I still like the sound of a home phone line compared to cell phones.
We also pay for Amazon prime mostly for the free and quick shipping, but occasionally we stream some of their shows. That's an extra $8.25 monthly.
