if you had an extra $500 to spend completely out of your budget, would you prefer to spend it on small daily luxuries like eating out more, buying things, or save it for larger items like vacations?
eating out is meaningful. its basically a couple of hours with your family. of course, you dont have to spend more to get more out of that but that is the case with lots of stuff. if i wanted to find the best way to spend an additional $500, i would try to do it in a way to make my day to day life better not periodic experiences.
You don't have to spend $500 to get great food and service, but there are a number of places that offer great food and service that do cost $500. I'd go make some memories at one of those places.
I might be frivilous and buy something like a new IPAD or phone. The ones I own are perfectly fine and run well. I get all oogly googly when I walk into an Apple store and want to SPEND!
I also enjoy going to Whole Foods, Wegmans, or other higher end grocery store and being looser with buying whatever I want. Those stores can be a fun experience.
But there is the logical other side to me who often just saves any extra money.
I buy $2.00 TV dinners for lunch, never go out to lunch....but saved every dime I could for 9 years to buy a Lamborghini.....so my choice is obvious
