This is interesting. I remember reading a couple of years ago about a Chicago couple who won $30 million in the lottery and kept it secret from everyone including their ten teenage children. They wanted their kids to know the meaning of money and felt that having parents with $30 million would not allow that. So they quietly invested the money and continued to live as they did before winning. Once the kids are done with college and gainfully employed they plan to inform them of the money. What a surprise it will be for them that secretly mom and dad are multi-millionaires. By the way, at the time we informed our kids that we were not the couple that won. They should have known since we do not live near Chicago. Jay

I am not personally concerned with the financial privacy aspect. My friends know that I do pretty well for myself and money is not a divider.

Additionally even with a $10MM windfall I would not be the wealthiest member of my family, and even she is not annoyed by family members asking her for money, so I'd be ok.

So I would take the $10MM, give some to family and friends without their asking, donate some to charity, and say hell no to any stranger that came knocking.

The amount of "good" I could do with the additional $7MM makes up for any potential privacy issues I might encounter.

I'll take the 10 million with everyone knowing. I'm good at saying "no."

I would take the $10 million. If I hit in a startup for that much, it would be in the SEC filing. What's the difference? I have several friends where I can see from SEC filings what they made. So what?

I would take the $10 million too. In fact it's not a lot of money for Californian, not among the billionaires around here.

10mm is still a lot of money even in California. Among billionaires? No but Californians? Yes

Me too. And 10 would give me the ability to be very generous with my kids and a few charities we regularly support.

I'd take the $10 million, which is really not all that much in this day and age. People also forget fast ... they move on to the next "news maker".

I'd have no problem spending $10 million. My brothers would enjoy their retirements and my neices and nephew wouldn't have to worry about financing their kids' college educations. My favorite charities would be able to add some change to their endowments and building funds.
