Hi Everyone!

I am struggling to find an apartment that suits my desires, so I'm hoping someone familiar with the area might be able to help. I'm going to be working at Boeing, am moving at the beginning of August, and am searching mostly in Delaware County. I was hoping for a modern apartment complex or a nice privately-owned place, but that seems hard to find unless I live all the way out in West Chester (too far). I also want to be in a safe area (single female) that is close to public transportation in case I decide to venture into the city for the nightlife. Does anyone have suggestions?

What I need/want:
1 bedroom apt, air conditioning, dishwasher, ability to have 1 cat, a semi-short commute to Ridley Park, <$1100 per month including all utilities (preferably less, but I'll be flexible if the place is worth it)

If you can help, I'll be so very grateful! Thanks!

-Pam

Try craigslist and look for Delco or delaware county.

I would recommend Ridley Park, Wallingford or Swarthmore or Media, you will find nice old homes and Media has a great walkable downtown. Wallingford and Swarthmore are liberal towns and situated right between the Blue Route, MacDade Blvd and Baltimore Ave...really great location to get anywhere you might need...I also think the R3 line has a better clientele than you will find on the R2...areas like Folcroft and Glenolden, Darby, etc have seen better days...

Check out Ridley Park, Essington, and Tinicum. All are good areas. And all are close to the airport. Good Luck!

You don't want Essington or Tinicum, unless an area of highways, mediocre tract homes and constant airport runway landings and takeoffs overhead is what you are shooting for...close to work but not much of a place to live if you ask me...

Thank you all. It's so nice to know a bit more about people's impressions of the areas before I actually move there. I'll keep checking back in case anyone else has suggestions. But, I might as well try asking...does anyone know of any specific apartments? Take care!

Try Springfield, too. It is convenient to Boeing - Rt 420 cuts through it and you can easily access I-476.
There are small apt. complexes in Springfield, don't know how "old" the buildings are. Most of Springfield was built during the 50's-60's, so I'd guess most of the apts. are from the same time frame. For one option, on Rt.1 you could check out Rolling Green Apts.

Stonewood village Park Apartments in Ridley Park. They are located on 300 Walnut street, a little bit behind Taylor Hospital. I lived there 4 years ago and it was great. There were a lot of kids but it is quiet now. A townhome with two bedrooms, one bath, and a den went for $1095-1125/mo and a two bedroom apartment was $900. A Since you're a single female, you may want to go one bedroom. 4 years ago, the rates for a one bedroom apartment was $850/mo. All apartments are A/C. I loved the apartment complex, but they are under new management so I do not know the new prices. I think their phone number is 610-521-2259. The apartments are carpeted unless you prefer hardwood floors, and there is a laundromat center in each building. Hope this helps

Hopefully, since the OP was dated 5/26/08 the poster found a place to live well before this.
