I found a home in Glenside that seems to work. We are a professional young couple looking for our forever home to raise a family in. Also, close to CC works because of work.

Would you recommend Glenside... (Abington school district near Keswick and north of train tracks) to live in? To buy in? To raise a family in?

Our main concerns are safety, school district, neighborhood and projected home values.
Thanks!

I grew up in Abington bought my first home in Glenside. Schools are great, close to everything and lots of parks and community. I think that the area will retain its real estate values based on the convenient location to the city. Let me know if you need a realtor..

Where are you moving from and what type of neighborhood are looking for?

Glenside is a fine area but is an older established area which may or may not be what you are looking for.

There are literally hundreds of areas in the Philly region so some things that might be helpful would be location of job/s; desired type of neighborhood, price range and even where you are coming from and what you like and dislike about that area.

I'd have no hesitation on Glenside. Someone in another thread called parts of Glenside "iffy", and everyone disagreed, that description was wildly off the mark.

If are really and truly looking for a forever home, it would be a good idea to rent for a year or two to get to know the areas. And, since home prices, in general, are not going up anytime soon, why jump into a forever home purchase immediately upon arriving in the area?

If you're comfortable with an older established community with a fair amount of walkability (not to mention "lifers"*) as opposed to newer construction with more younger families, then Glenside is definitely fine.

That's not to say said "lifers" won't be friendly towards you, but rather that "greater Abington" may seem like one Cheers bar at times.
