Oh, Penn's Landing. Always such a tease.
This plan is miles better than some of the others that have floated around over the years (and died) though. Here's hoping for the best.

I note with amusement that the godawful 'cruise ship' building is mercifully cropped out of the rendering though.

It seems the mayor has some plans to make the Parkway more inviting and livelier : Small steps toward Ben Franklin Parkway progress

While they of course do not address all of Inga's desires, my views are more in line with those of the mayor's spokesman: "Let's try some things, and then we can amp it up."

More on the current state and future plans for the Navy Yard: Navy Yard's next phase

Such "office parks" are common in many growing cities. While I suspect many of us would like to see these businesses located in CC, at least they are in Philadelphia County. A new hotel is being built in the Navy Yard and the plan calls for apartment complexes which will lead to more retail, dining, etc. I see a lot of potential in having a third center of activity (the others being CC and UCity), creating a triangle of development and growth with financial incentive for infill.

Some people also forget about Templetown, Temple Hospital, both of which have more employees in the area.... and the City Ave Corridor. Although half in Bala Cynwyd, the City Ave Corridor is a large business district in Philadelphia.

Yes, you're right, of course. I believe the seeds have already been planted in Templetown so that it's a matter of (a bit of) time before North Board fully revitalizes and connects with CC. And yes, City Avenue is healthy, but it's separated by too much West Philly decay for me to see this as being a contiguous part of Philly's urban fabric for quite a time, if ever.

What I am focusing on is the triangle formed by UCity, CC and the Naval Yard. Over time, one could envision a truly vibrant Navy Yard with residents and the amenities that come with them accelerating gentrification up South Broad and west into Point Breeze.

BTW - I'm an optimist.

Yeah - but City Avenue is also pretty accessible to Northwest Philadelphia. Not by walking, of course. But public transit is a snap - and of course lots of people drive, especially in NW Philly. Until I moved to Germantown and discovered the 65 bus, City Avenue was completely irrelevant to me too. I do wish it was more pleasant to be in without a car - but it is convenient to get there anyway, and it's got some useful shopping. And a lot of the NW Philly neighborhoods - however nice they are - don't really have the jobs or the retail to support their populations. So you can look at City Avenue as contiguous with NW, at least.
