Inga's take on these projects. The renderings for the tower look fantastic.
Agreed. I love the dimensions/angles and the interesting design.

Default Another Day, Another Theater On Broad Redone!

Historic Uptown Theater gets state grant for renovations

Quote:
State Sen. Sharif Street (D-Phila.) officially presented the funding to the Uptown Entertainment and Development Corporation, the theaters nonprofit owner on Friday. The grant from the Redevelopment Capital Assistance Program will help renovations move forward on the historic structure.

“The Uptown Theater is the only movie theater with the art deco theme, with a terra cotta design from an African-American community development corporation that is still intact and we want to make sure that it stays intact for the next generation of entertainments, promoters and performers and filmmakers can use the Uptown the way it was for my generation,”
Built in 1929, the Uptown was a renowned venue for top entertainment. It fell into disrepair during the 1980s. The UEDC acquired the building in 2002. Plans for the building include a renovated main theater, office space and a Black music museum.
Hope for the best! Still lots of work to do, but hopefully one day it will be brought back to life.

Definitely hope it works this time. There's been at least one attempt to do it in the past.

I'm pretty sure I'm the only person posting who remembers it during its latter day hey day and went to shows there in the early 60s. It was a wonderfull experience!

If the Met, at Broad and Poplar, can be saved we can do this too!

Yes, yes... a thousand times, yes about the rail park! Hmmm, it might have to have hours of operation.

The HL plus the new Whitney Museum is still amazing to me because, once again, I know all about how it was around there 25 years ago.

In, oh, 1990/91, 14th St and 8th, was almost ghetto with abandoned buildings and so on. Chelsea was pretty gritty at the time. The Meatpacking dist was, well, a bunch of horrific looking meat wholesalers. Eh...

There were some great underground clubs, though, including Nel's on 14th, just east of 8th.

Yes, I think 10 or 11pm, most NYC parks have hours of operation.

I heard Comcast is reviving this bid for this. Comcast was interested in T-Mobile at one point too, I don't know the status of that.
