IMO, JGH is way off base here. I live on the ML, in the heart of Lower Merion. I'd never want to raise kids here, the status competition, sense of entitlement and materialism is over the top. Unfortunately, people from here, including and especially the parents, do not see it in that light, they see it as normal and consequently so do their children. There are some exceptions, but based on my experience I'd say rare exceptions.

A good way to describe it is the Main Line is a bubble, some people live in the bubble and don't get out of the bubble very often (trips to Aspen, Vail, Italy, France and white-tablecloth restaurants in Center City don't count, they're still in the bubble). When they do get out, they tend to see the rest of the world as different and an oddity, and they're the normal ones. It all depends on one's perspective, or more accurately, how one was raised and with what expectations. See the last paragraph in this post, it says a lot.

It is self-selective. People who are looking for that type of culture live on the ML. People who want to avoid that type of culture do not live there. As stated, many people who live in that environment probably think it is perfectly normal. The point was just to give the OP a sense of the differences in atmosphere between different areas.

A little late on the matter, but Council Rock North is really good. I had a learning problem and the school really helped me out. They had special classes to accommodate for that and there were also classes for kids who were really smart. The teachers are really good and know there stuff. There are always fun events they put on and we have good sports teams. Council Rock North is always ranked high in the Philadelphia magazine. So that should tell you a lot also.
