Not really. Most fans of independent stores wouldn't be caught dead in a Panera or Cosi.

Not saying I agree with them but they are pretty consistent in that regard.

Personally I am not a fan of Panera Bread ... I think it is only so-so.

This is a place to avoid if you are watching carbs in your diet ... nearly everything they sell is very high in carbs.

Forgot about that - another good option. And then Le Bus is on 18th, just north of the park - I've never actually gotten bread from there though. They seem to have a following.

Anyway, when you live in a place that's lucky enough to have them, you really should support local bakeries and restaurants, and keep your money in the city. Corporate chains are not only predictably mediocre, but they just funnel money out of Philly and to places like (in this case) suburban Missouri.
