What I find hilarious here is that the same people that agitate to get more chain restaurants to move here are also the same ones who bemoan the closure of the local independent shops after the chains move in.
Not really. Most fans of independent stores wouldn't be caught dead in a Panera or Cosi.
Not saying I agree with them but they are pretty consistent in that regard.
You beat me to it, honestly I dont understand someone living in Rittenhouse would question where good bread can be found. Also Dibrunos has a very good selction of Bread at 18th and Chestnut.
Forgot about that - another good option. And then Le Bus is on 18th, just north of the park - I've never actually gotten bread from there though. They seem to have a following.
Anyway, when you live in a place that's lucky enough to have them, you really should support local bakeries and restaurants, and keep your money in the city. Corporate chains are not only predictably mediocre, but they just funnel money out of Philly and to places like (in this case) suburban Missouri.
