Hi all. Question: If I decide to work in New Castle, DE, where is the best place for me to live in Philly if I want to commute everyday? I don't want a commute that's longer than 30-45 mins. on average. Thanks!

I would suggest leaving Philadelphia around 4 am if you want to do that commute in less then an hour. It's not the distance, it's the traffic.

Well, my shift would be more like 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. or 4:30 to midnight. Wouldn't traffic problems be lessened since I would be working these hours?

Try living next door in Delaware County; this will give you roughly equal access to your job as well as the assets that the city has to offer. Otherwise if you must live in the city, there are some decent neighborhoods in the extreme SW section of Philly near the airport.

Mapquest has it at 46 minutes and that's without traffic. There are way too many places that continually bog down with construction or accidents or just too many cars on the road to make it in less then an hour. I suggest that you drive it a couple of times at the times you would be traveling and see what you think. Perhaps it will be okay.

Default Try Delaware County, PA...

that would give you easy access to Phila and cut a fair amount off your commute into NewCastle. Though with the odd hours you are working it might not be too bad...it's just a long drive no matter how you slice it!
