I think we need to start making a better distinction here between the immediate King of Prussia area (i.e., the western part of Upper Merion) and areas that are close to but are not IN KoP (i.e., Main Line/Collegeville/Valley Forge).

As several others have noted, while King of Prussia is not exactly awful, it's not necessarily what many people consider desirable. Sure, as HeavenWood noted, you can find your standard post-WWII suburban neighborhoods IN King of Prussia, but the IMMEDIATE area is certainly lacking in cohesive planning/community and is incessantly congested.

For what many consider more desirable, I'd suggest an area that's still close but as far away from the mall as possible. West Norriton, Collegeville, Gulph Mills and Conshohocken would all fit the bill.

Is there a supply of single family, smaller, 1910 - 1950 vintage homes in or around Paoli, that are within walking distance of the train station? Walking distance herein defined as 3/4 mile or less.

Absolutely. Go to Zillow and enter Paoli, PA 19301. Concentrate on the streets right near the train station, such as Central, Woodbine, Keystone, and Summit.

Just be aware that a fairly massive (could be $500M) development is scheduled to occur at the Paoli Train Station sometime over the next 5-10 years. I'm not sure the details and it's been talked about forever, but a glimpse on Zillow will show you that there are more than a few acres of undeveloped concrete pavement near the train station.

Please stop speaking about places you have never been to and don't have the slightest understanding of.

King of Prussia is very close to some of the wealthiest places in the state. It's doubtful that any part of that corridor will be undesirable for very much longer.

The streets that you mentioned off of West Central are not a in a good area. There are many run down houses and drug activity over there. A better area of Paoli is off of East Central.

Yeah, I grew up in King of Prussia. It's not a terrible neighborhood at all. I don't know what he's talking about.

There's only really two places in Tredyffrin Township you don't want to be in. West Central and Mt.Pleasant off of Upper Gulph Rd.

I'm from Tredy and I echo the advice for OP to live in Paoli or Berwyn (or Devon). Unlike most of the Main Line, they are a quick 5 minute drive from KOP, thanks to their position along the 202 corridor. Valley Forge is also a good pick if you don't want to live in KOP proper.

Then again, if you want to be closer to the city (for Temple), Conshy or West Conshy might be a better compromise. There are new apartments there by the river, and some good ethnic restaurants nearby.
