We might be relocating from NYC for a job. We love living in Manhattan and raising our son (& dog!) here, but this might be a professional opportunity that we just wouldn't want to turn down. We've been considering the Princeton area (where the job would be) or Buck's County (more specifically New Hope or Newtown). We have been partial to PA because we've spent more time there and have family there. However, our minds are still wide open. We are interested in a good school district with a real/endearing downtown area with as many restaurants (of as many cuisines-not necessarily fancy, just yummy), stores, bars, coffee shops, supermarkets, theaters, etc as possible. If there's a dog run nearby, that would just be icing in the cake. House-wise, we'd like 3-4 bedroom with a yard, maybe even a pool, and could probably go up to low $800s altho we'd like to stay in the $700s if possible. Which area would you think would work best for us?

New Hope or Newtown. No doubt.

You can't get better than these two towns. Both have fantastic "downtown" areas and both are very affluent areas. Depending where in Newtown you live, your kid would either attend Pennsbury School district or Council Rock school district. Both fantastic school districts and in fact, Council Rock is one of the best school districts in the metro/country.

If I'm not mistaken, all of New Hope attends the New Hope-Solebury school district which is also obviously a fantastic school district.

Look no further than New Hope and Newtown because they are exactly what you are looking for. Tons of parks too. New Hope is a little pricier than Newtown and Newtown is exactly in your price range, but I'm sure you could find something in your price range in Newhope as well.

Both downtown areas of New Hope and Newtown will give you everything you could ever ask for as far as stores, bars, restaurants, coffee shops, supermarkets go. I know there are theaters all throughout the area but most people in the area go to the United Artist Oxford Valley Movie theater in Langhorne (10-15 min drive from Newtown) and/or the Neshaminy Mall AMC Movie Theater in Bensalem right of Route 1.

Newtown has one advantage over New Hope in that it is serviced by SEPTA via the Regional Rail line at the Woodbourne Station providing easy access to the city and anywhere else in the metro (if access to the city is desired by you).

Hope this helped

If I was working in Princeton, that is where I would be living. Can't get any better schools or homes, that's for sure. Newtown and New hope are very nice areas but the commute is what would take a toll on you.. Id take Princeton any day. No question..

I'd have to second Princeton. With a budget that high, finding something shouldn't be a problem. It's easy enough to travel from there to PA to visit people and that much easier to go back to NY.
