This whole discussion takes me back to my childhood. Most of my mom's family is from Philly, and wooder/water was a huge family joke. Special dialect, there. Funny how the channel 3 news anchors speak perfect, though? Same with New York! You never hear the news anchors say Fugetta Bout It!

I can totally relate to ConorsDad's references about the Scranton accent, even though I'm pleased to say that my generation and those succeeding ours no longer have it. No more "Hey youse guys wanna go up da Eynon for a couple two tree beers at da bar near da crick?" It makes the locals sound so uneducated to speak in such a manner. It's great to observe this going the way of the dinosaur!

How about "I gotta git a teeowl tuh clean up da cawfee on da flur". My husband can't stand my accent and I get strange looks from people in Central Jersey I encounter.
