Single, 30, Female...I have no idea where to begin. I'm interested in living in Philadelphia, moving from Austin, TX. Any suggestions on the right area for my demographic? Safe area? Also I have a masters in Edu. Technology and Leadership, so I'll most likely be working for a school or school district. Any thoughts, suggestions will be helpful. Thanks!

I met a girl recently from austin tx. She loves it but her downtown apt fell through during her move and she had to take a quick place in the burbs which she regrets.

How much are you thinking to spend on rent etc?

"Single, 30, Female" It's alot of males that's around your age looking for a relationship... Even at that, if you're more than just the natural "let the relationship come to me" type of girl, there's always craigslist for relationships or backpage lol......

"I have no idea where to begin" Look in safe (white, no offense to other races, even though I'm black) neighborhoods, like if you're looking for just a URBAN DENSE neighborhood, look in Manayunk (Northwest), Fishtown (North), East (Northwest) Falls, Bridesburg (Northeast) , Fairmount/Art Museum (North [Safe]), Bella Vista (South), Pennsport (South), UNIVERSITY CITY (West), DOWNTOWN (Center City)... PLENTY MORE (SAFE AND BOOMING) NEIGHBORHOODS to pick from but these are my suggestions... or a more suburban area... etc... If you need more help on a more suburban area, respond to this... I can help you with that.

"moving from Austin, TX" Nice.

My personal advice would be, after you find a neighborhood you THINK you like.. go check it out in person and get used to the neighborhood, check out the stores around it, etc. If you really like it, personally, then great, move in or whatever, (Trulia.com) then... buy it in real life then (My real advice) Have a hobby that other people do, like if you like skateboarding... go to Paine's Park and go meet other Philly skateboarders. (it is a big and smart city, so just find interests of other people... and make friends with them.) CYA AND WELCOME (Greeting) AND WELCOME (Like After Thank You)

A lot of it will depend on where you'll be working. The "perfect" neighborhood for you could potentially make for a long commute. In fact, with the current state of the Philadelphia School District, odds are rather high that you will be working in the suburbs.

I've spent a little bit of time in Austin. What were you favorite neighborhoods there?

I'm (late 20s, single male in healthcare) also thinking of making the move from Austin to Philly. The city has always intrigued me, and I'm growing tired of Austin.

A question for the Philadelphians here, what neighborhoods would be a good fit for someone in my position? For me, I like dense, urban areas and strongly dislike the suburbs. Also, being in areas of high activity and nearby hospitals/clinics are obviously a plus.

Lastly, what neigborhoods could you define as "rough around the edges" but with plenty of character and personality? A vague question, I know. For me, Austin has a serious lack of such places.

Move to the Kensington section of Philadelphia that borders Fishtown.

Thank you for your advice rofl3cat. I'll probably be looking within Philadelphia, as well as the suburbs, since I don't know where I'd be working yet. What are the suburbs around there? What's the subway system like there in Philadelphia?

MikeNigh,

I am unsure about rent. This is all in preliminary stages right now. I expect rent to be much higher than here in Austin. Currently my rent for a two bedroom is almost $1,000.

If you are willing to compromise with a 1 bedroom you can keep that rent in some awesome downtown neighborhoods. I wouldn't recommend moving to the suburbs, it's not what philly has to offer that is unique.
