Finally getting to visit the Gardens this year. Any advice? I will avoid the weekends because I can, but is it better to wait until December to go or is the November time frame just as nice? Is there a shuttle to Kennett Square all the time or just on weekends? Driving up from Rehoboth so thinking of maybe a 10 a.m. arrival but can be very flexible to come earlier or later. Anything else that is a not to miss while there? Any and all advice welcome. Thanks in advance.

It will be crowded, so make sure you buy your tickets online ahead of time. You will not get tickets in person on a holiday weekend.

I would say early is better crowd wise, but you will miss the light shows at night.

In years past, I usually get there around 330/4pm and stay until 8ish.

Agree with cpomp. Evening is a highlight because of the outdoor lights at night. Coming from Rehoboth, I understand you may not want to return home so late. You might consider arriving around 3:30 to 4 and visiting the conservatory first before hitting the gardens at dusk. You could always consider the evening at one of the area’s inns if it fits your budget and schedule.

As cpomp posts, buying tix ahead of time is suggested, though you will find the crowds thinner on a weeknight and earlier in the Christmas season. I highly recommend a visit if you’ve never been before (and perhaps if you have ).

We can and will plan to spend the night in the area. I should have stated that we planned to do the indoor stuff first then head to Kennett Square and return to see the outside and view the lights.

Anything else we should plan on while there?

Yep if you go you have to see the lights just pick a day it is warm and not raining....lol. Here is an idea visit West Chester Borough (High & Gay St....not a joke) 50 plus restaurants, about 20mins from Longwood great downtown. And if you like parades checkout

QVC West Chester Christmas Parade, West Chester, Pennsylvania

November 30th, the parade goes for 2-3 hours....yes hours with many bands ..... just be warned 35k plus people come in for the parade.

Agree with West Chester. Tons of cute shops and restuarants. There are also some nice wineries in the area (if you drink), Chadds Ford, Penns Woods and Galer.

Plenty of standard Marriott/ Hampton Inn type hotels throughout that entire stretch as well as small Inns.

Sounds like a nice weekend

Gosh - so much: Winterthur, Nemours, Brandywine River Museum, Hagley Museum are some of my favs. Google those. Here’s a good link to the area: Brandywine Valley Museums & Tourist Attractions - Things to Do & See in the Brandywine Valley

I love that all of this is a day trip from Philly.

If you like theatre check out

Home - UPTOWN!

Not a bad seat in the house .

Also West Chester University has an amazing music program and offer FREE concerts with very talented students.

Look for concerts in Madeleine Wing Adler Theater, Performing Arts Center Lobby or Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall

https://www.wcupa.edu/music/eventsCalendar.aspx#/?i=1

We have to both many times never disappointed.

One event that is not-to-miss, IMO, is Brandywine Christmas at the Brandywine River Museum. I went for the first time last year and now plan to go every year, not just for the beautiful Christmas trees and amazing trains, but also for the handmade ornaments that are available for sale, which are made by volunteers throughout the year.

I loved the Brandywine River Museum. There's so much to see and do in the area that I think you'll have to go back next year. Perhaps in the spring.
