I have the feeling that crime, especially violent crime, is increasing not just in Philly but everywhere else. For this reason, policing is not just about arresting criminals or having their presence to deter crime because the violent attacks in many instances involve people who know each other.

The city needs to address the social aspects that are behind the increased spate of violent crime because I also think tough policing violates the rights of people in the name of providing them with security.

All good points (and yes, I too laughed when I heard the name) mentioned. I have to say though, I think coming from Portland Oregon is an interesting aspect. I guess it's way more about the social aspects . It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I hope it's all good.

She's very 'progressive' and Krasner's happy with the hire.

This will not be good.

Her previous job was two years heading Portland's PD. I don't know if you're aware how the last two years in Portland have been, but masked terrorists have been running wild with a "hands off" response from police.

Philly is going to have a serious Antifa problem, especially if a certain somebody gets re-elected in November. But to be fair, the taste of Antifa violence so far in Philly is being properly prosecuted: Marines Testify About the “Antifa Mob” They Say Attacked Them in Philly.

I keep seeing this "hands off" claim mentioned over and over but can't find any source for it outside of right wing message boards and opinion columns.

The claims have been denied:

Are there any credible sources to back up the belief that Outlaw had a "hands off" approach to violent Antifa protesters? Please let me know if you are aware of any.

Regardless, Portland has a much longer history with with extreme left and right wing groups that predate Outlaw by many years. I don't see any reason to think it will suddenly be a problem here. I don't think anybody chooses where to protest based on who the Police commissioner is. Seems like a silly concern to me.

I haven't made up my mind but I think she could be a good pick. An outsider was necessary and I could see her lending some credibility to reforms in the police department that could help mend the fences between the police and various communities.

Interesting that there is concern about Antifa violence when they would not exist if not for the violence to which they formed as a response.

White supremacist violence is indeed growing here in Philly. They're also pursuing more insidious tactics like attempting to get on the Abington School Board. Hopefully Chief Outlaw will take her experience in Portland with supremacist violence and head off potential skirmishes that such types may instigate here.

Agreed. This will likely take a regional or even state-wide cooperation that a majority outside the city unfortunately may not support.

The next few years in Philly are gonna be so woke...

Mandated police training on gender diversity, tolerance and how to deputize neighborhood Antifa groups to combat climate change and institutional racism, yo.

The Liberty Bell is a sign of Racist White Privilege. Gone.
