Seeing what happened in Italy should tell us how to act, but we are sliding down the same water slide thinking it won't happen to us. Too late.

Also, the US is a huge country. I expect it to hit us in waves. Fauci is predicting 100,000 - 200,000 deaths if we do things perfectly. We were last at 2,200. The pain hasn't even started!
I think one of the problems is, especially here in Philadelphia is that we are not seeing this wave. Now maybe thats a good thing, lord knows I don't want folks dropping and dying like flies but for the last two weeks we've heard nothing but it's ARMAGEDDON !!! DOOM!! but the longer that does not materialize the more cynical folks will get.

so far, here in philly (according to 6 abc) we've had 9 deaths, with 5 of those deaths being in nursing homes. If those numbers stay relatively low for let's say the next week, you are going toget more and more folks saying "enough"

Macy's.... I know two people who work in the CC Macy's. Macy's was already in trouble. This may kill it entirely.

There are now about 1000 cases in the city and some of them are going to die. As testing increases there will be more cases and probably more deaths.

Americans tend to be foolish about so many things unfortunately. Social distancing can work. More of us need to understand that.

Very true. Did you see that people gathered in crowds in NYC to take pictures of the navy ship sent to give hospitals relief? These people just don't get it. How dumb can a person be?

That would be sad. I don't really shop at Macy's, but they always have a nice display during the holidays.

I really hope not, but there will be so many companies that will never be the same after this event, especially retail, which was already a mess.

On a positive note, I read an article today stating that Philadelphia's business market should fare well through the virus and possibly emerge even stronger as the demand for life sciences increases. Philadelphia could become the main hub (even more than it already is) for life sciences and medical research.

COVID-19 Cases In Philadelphia Now Top 1,300

It's gone from 250 to 1315 in the last week and it appears the numbers are increasing exponentially by the day.

I could be wrong and maybe we haven't seen a glimpse of the worst to come yet, but I'm hoping that strict measures that were put in place before a lot of other areas in the country may be working, or at least flattening the curve somewhat. The danger is that when these measures work like they're supposed to, people don't see the worst case scenario and say, Well they blew that out of proportion.

This is just ramping up in Philly. I love optimism, but people have to look at the reality of the situation as it is right on top of us. We will likely be increasing exponentially for weeks. Our efforts to isolate have not been strict enough, early enough, or followed by the public properly.
