All this talk about famous people from Philadelphia and vicinity, and nobody mentions the Bloodhound Gang? Shame on you.

Sort of. When I lived in Mercer County, I got both Philly and NY local TV stations (so 2 channels of each network plus sports channels from both markets).

That you may, but Mercer County is still included in Philadelphia's DMA (Designated Market Area) by the broadcast ratings services. No "sort of" about that, just as, Mercerites' rooting for Philadelphia rather than New York sports teams and the lack of Mercer County local coverage in New York City media notwithstanding, Mercer County is in the New York CSA.

Mercer County is split pretty evenly in sports allegiance. There are a lot of Philly fans, but probably at least as many Giants and Yankees. There is the occasional bone thrown to Mercer in the Philly local news. I don't know about NY since I never watched the NY stations when I was there. I'm sure you're right about the technical DMA designation, though.

Granted, you live closer to the county than I do, but the only time I've seen Mercer County covered in a New York media outlet is when The New York Times covers the New Jersey state government.

6ABC (WPVI-TV Philadelphia), OTOH, still maintains a Mercer County bureau, last I looked. I don't think any of the NYC news stations do that. I do remember that the Philadelphia media were all over that shooting at the all-night arts festival in Trenton a few years ago, pre-pandemic, that led to its being shut down overnight.

I actually lived in Mercer County for about 10 years before moving across the river. As for the Trenton Art-All-Night shooting, I was actually there that night but left long before the shooting in the late night hours. Art-All-Night was one a really cool thing for Trenton until it was ruined by gangs and violence. Regular coverage of more mundane Mercer County happenings aside, I would think that incident probably got significant coverage in NY media (and probably national media to a certain extent, too) because it was such a big deal.

It goes by county, so all of Berks is included.

Like it or not, when you google search the Philadelphia MSA, or the Delaware Valley, a nice large image of a map pops up with Reading being the northwestern-most city labeled on it.

I mean Acme and Channel 6 only exist in our region. Wawa and Rita's have grown beyond.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Kobe Bryant. What a loss...

I heard Bob Saget (“Full House” & is it, “America’s Funniest Videos”?) is from Phili.
Although in this day and age, popularity to teens would most likely go to Taylor. irregardless of where she is actually from. Though many know it’s Wyomissing, Pa. She could have said outside the Philadelphia, Pa area? I’d give her a pass on that.

Berks County is its own MSA (Reading), but it is in the Philadelphia CSA. Don't ask me why Berks County gets its own MSA but New Castle County, DE (Wilmington) does not, especially considering that the latter has two "suburban" counties of its own (Salem, NJ, and Cecil, MD).

Also: you can find Acme supermarkets in North Jersey, too.
