Exactly! This post/thread is clearly positive news for Philadelphia. Why do people thrive on spinning to a negative? There is enough trolling/negativity in the looting thread.

And if the trend were reversed (Philadelphia losing college grads), this thread would be 8 pages of trolling...Damned if you do, damned if you don't...

Reassuring if they are stem majors pursuing legitimate careers, rather than the previous set of theatre/ arts majors drinking their 20's away at Mcglincheys after graduating whining that they can't find work.

It's only 'trolling' because some here don't like what some are posting. Different people have different views and opinions, it's not 'trolling.' Stop taking it so personal or just block people with which you disagree.

Some people are negative. Is that against forum rules?

Well considering Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are the only places dragging the rest of Pennsylvania kicking and screaming into the 21st Century, you can bet a large share of these grads have a STEM background.

And I could say keep scrolling and refrain from sharing a pessimistic take in every new thread.

Why do you lead with "stop taking it so personal"? This is not a matter of agree/disagree, this is clearly positive news, met with negativity by some. Like why, I don't get it?

Philadelphia is a drag on the state, this is the problem as the state isn't strong enough to shoulder it. the basic concept that more grads on moving to the city should, in theory, help Philadelphia become a contributing entity to the state. that said, the city is the largest reason we still have state stores so hardly dragging the rest of the state into the 21st century.

Care to share stats to back up this claim?

I know it pains conservatives in rural PA to acknowledge that Southeastern PA (including Philadelphia) keeps Pennsylvania economically above water and relevant.

No, the employees union is the largest reason we still have a state monopoly on the retail saie of wine and spirits (sort of, now, thanks to that reform that allows supermarkets to sell wine and beer — but the state remains the sole wholesaler of wine and spirits).

I think that, were you to poll city residents, they would be as much in favor of breaking up the monopoly as you are.

Philadelphia County is a net recipient of state tax revenues, but on a per capita basis, there's a county in the very rural Northern Tier that outranks it. A lot of the flow is driven by formulaic funding (especially assistance for the poor, but the city's poverty rate has been trending downward).

The Southeast, Philadelphia County included, remains the chief economic engine of the state. Were the five counties to form their own state, the other 62 would have to raise taxes to pay for the services they get while the five could live off the revenue they generate already.

You don't even live here. Since 'Negadelphians' are so abundant, how about you start a thread for us? 'The Negadelphia Thread.'

I think you quite well know that Philadelphia, which anchors the largest metro and economic juggernaut for PA, by far, is absolutely a net exporter of tax dollars for the rest of the Commonwealth. And it's been that way for quite some time.

The yokels in Bedford County can think otherwise, but that's the reality.
