Anecdotal evidence aside, the area of 65th Avenue and Camelback is in the Maryvale precinct. It has the highest violent crime rate, and second highest property crime rate in the city of Phoenix. These are indisputable facts. Statistics for Reported Crimes - Precinct

Also, Maryvale neighborhood doesn't rank in the top 25 most dangerous in the country: 25 most dangerous neighborhoods 2010
I guess there is some doubt in your mind that she will be safe if she is there longer than 6 months.

Why did you single out Compton and Detroit as if those are the worst but neither made your list of dangerous neighborhoods? Why didn't you say, at least you're not in Chicago or Cleveland?

I believe she will most likely be safe there if she live there 6+ months.

And I singled out Compton and Detroit because they were the first two that came to mind, I believe I read an article mentioning those two cities as being among the most dangerous in the country. And just because a particular neighborhood didn't make the list of the most dangerous doesn't make the whole city safe. So it doesn't matter is no neighborhoods in Compton or Detroit made "my" list.

The point that I was trying to make is that the Maryvale neighborhood, although high in crime, is not nearly as bad as some people make it seem.

People may exaggerate, but the crime stats reflect reality. And this area is the most crime-ridden in Phoenix. People are certainly free to live there, but they should understand the facts.

I doubt you'll experience any violent crime personally, but it is an "iffy" area. I know a few people who have lived in Maryvale for years and who are ok with it, but there is more foot traffic and activity there. I am not afraid to go shopping there, but if I were to live in a home there under your circumstances, I probably would, BUT, would make sure I have an alarm, if it has a carport and not a garage, put a gate up, and put bars on the windows.

In other words burglar proof the property and you'll be ok.
