Hello and Greetings from NJ. I am in the process of getting a divorce and have decided that NJ is just overwhelming and I am in desperate need of a change.

So after careful consideration, I decided to move to Phoenix. Any advice would be great, I just started looking into apartments and jobs, and it seems that the Mesa area is reasonably affordable, is this because it is ghetto? I am not looking for a "city" I have that working in NYC now and I just want some serenity.

You need to come visit Arizona and take a few days learning your way around. The Valley is huge (Mesa is huge). Mesa has neighborhoods of all type from "affordable" to "forget about it". It goes without saying some are more desirable than others.

I would definitely consider where your employment will be because we have little public transportation. Also consider the type of activities you enjoy. You will be driving everywhere. At $3+ a gallon it can get expensive real fast.

Phoenix metro is huge--4 1/2 million people. I don't think it's high on the serenity scale either. Anyways, good luck to you.
