Hi All,

..., so I have an MVD-related question since I plan to switch my driver's license and my plates to Arizona. Do they give you Arizona plates and an Arizona Driver's License right there on the spot after you apply and pay the fees? Or do they mail them to you?

The reason I ask is that I'll be living with family in Glendale the first 30 days after I move out there, but then moving to my own place after that. My family is moving out of their place 30 days after I arrive, so if they were to mail the plates I would potentially never receive them, meaning I would have to wait until I get permanently settled to get Arizona plates on my car (which I would prefer not to - I don't want to get busted driving around w out of state plates)

Any way, hope that makes sense. I'm just trying to plan whether it's realistic to get registered at my folks address right when I get out there, or if it's safer to wait until after they move to their new place in AZ.

Here's more info:

Motor Vehicle Division

You may be able to apply for a 30 day use permit to give you time to set up a permanent address.

Thanks! And thank you everyone else who responded. If anyone else has done this personally in the past few months, I'd be happy to hear your account of whether the license plates were mailed or handed to you on the spot.

I read from that link that I must surrender my out-of-state plates at the time of registering, so I assume they would hand me an AZ plate right then and there, but who knows.

You could try contacting the MVD to ask them:

Motor Vehicle Division - contact info

Agreed. This is the only sensible way to get an answer to the question.

Thanks, I have contacted them, but I'm interested in hearing experiences from those who have personally done this (moved to AZ and gotten AZ plates). It is valuable to me to hear those experiences, despite suggestions that it isn't sensible or reasonable or whatnot.

Thank you all so far.

You the the plates and driver's licenses right there on the spot in this state.
And you can change your address on everything when you move online without a probelm here~ http://www.onlinedmv.com/AZ_Arizona_...r_vehicles.htm
And it's easy to do.
