Power Surge, it's funny you mentioned Verizon's coverage, when I was with them a little over 2 years ago, there was no coverage in remote areas like Crown King. AllTel does have coverage there.

I moved to Phoenix 3 years ago. I have lived in two different areas with two different phones and have had horrible reception. I currently live downtown surrounded by cell phone towers. I have AT&T and have no signal anywhere. My phone is completely dead at work and in my apartment. Even in my car driving down Central Ave my service cuts in and out with each foot of driving. I have called AT&T and had them "troubleshoot" the problem. AT&T themselves told me I will not get a signal. This is downtown Phoenix and surrounding area not the middle of the desert.

This is a common rebate clearing-house tactic. It's called something like "double-submission". They tell you your rebate cannot be fulfilled due to x or y (in my case, they told me I didn't purchase my phone at a proper retail outlet), then you follow up with a call and they tell you it was their mistake. They promptly issued my rebate, but many people would say "ah man" and not follow up; that's a big savings to the clearing-house. It is so unethical, but that's how rebate clearing-houses are valued; by lowest % of claimed rebates. I believe the practice is continually being looked at by FTC or other agencies.

I've had Alltel for years. The coverage/signal situation has only gotten better, and I never had significant problems, except in some of the mountainous areas (or, in the old days, in the tall concrete downtown). Not sure what the buyout by Verizon will bring, but so far so good.

I have Verizon and when we were in the Phoenix area last year we visited Tempe, Anthem, downtown Phoenix, Surprise, Scottsdale, Peoria and Glendale looking at houses. Never once did I not have a strong signal. It doesn't matter to me about Verizon's proprietary software as I only use my phone for calls and a few text messages. Customer service has never been an issue either. They respond quickly and have been flexible with billing issues.

I would say hands down that Verizon works best for the outer areas of phoenix, but the metro area of phoenix pretty much every provider is the same.

When I go camping, usually I am the only one with a signal, my friends have alltel or tmobile.

This is all very interesting . . .

No matter where and/or when, the best service and clarity has always been with Sprint PCS.
