So you're clear, GoDaddy.com is based in Scottsdale and also offices in Mesa and Chandler. They have several data centers scattered around the Phoenix area.

I started at GoDaddy.com this past week and really like the "vibe" around the office, much much better than the large finance company I used to work for.

Thanks again for all the suggestions. More interviews are lined up so we are as hopeful as ever!

Also, I do realize there is a difference between aerospace and IT (haha), he also studied computer science and his projects in aerospace were often focused on software, hence the "branching out" for job possibilities.

Tacat, I was in aerospace years ago. I think your boyfriend will have better luck in IT for a couple of years before aerospace turns around. general Dynamics is laying off 50 people a day the first ten days of June, and will do more layoffs in October. Those are software engineering and systems engineering jobs. I don't want to sound discouraging. But nothing is permanent anymore. I know a bunch of people recently laid off in a smaller company in central Phoenix. All engineers. It behooves everyone to scrimp and save cash, as much as possible, even if it takes ten years, build up two years of living expenses in cash.

Tacat, try Goodrich. I did some more digging and found it has an electronics division In Phoenix hiring engineers. Not enough to replace the layoffs at GD, but a good number.

HR - thank you so much for the suggestions. We are well aware of how rough it is right now, and it's such a shame. He turned down internships in California because companies out there are no longer hiring new grads for full time employment; other friends of ours jumped on that opportunity and are already in more debt than they started off with as the pay for an internship often doesn't begin to cover basic cost of living expenses. Some of these go beyond 40 hours a week so even by filling in with a part-time job, they are working 70+ and are burning out just months after graduation.

We have to laugh when we see news reports claiming that certain degrees are, by default, better off for our generation than others... right now, it doesn't seem to matter if you're a physicist or a Japanese history major. You're in for a long battle. :P
