do you use it in December? Looking at house rentals for a christmas vacation. I was originally looking at homes with pools but now I'm thinking even if it's heated we may not use it.

We put in a gas heater when we had the pool built about 15 years ago. We've probably heated the pool a total of 3 times in all those years, and that was mostly the first year or two. Don't think we've done it since. Even back then we could plan on easily having an extra $100 or more tacked on to our gas bill when we did it.

We do use the hot tub more often in the cold weather but if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't bother with either one.

we heat all winter, since that is the only time we are in Az. We do have a heat pump which is very cheap to run as long as the temp stays above 50 last year was tough keeping the temps up but the other 3 years have not been a problem. We keep the pool at 91 during this time, my neighbors do the same, we are south facing with a cover that helps. Hard to tell but the worst electric bill is in the low $200.00 in Dec and Jan in Oct ,March around $50.00

We usually heat our pool for a few days over Christmas, and sometimes Thanksgiving too. It's a real treat for the kids and adults alike. The attached spa on the other hand gets used at least a couple of days a week year-round.
