What is the strangest thing that you, or someone you know of, has ever eaten at a Phoenix restaurant or food cart.

I hear there is a food truck downtown that sell Balut (from what I can tell it is an almost hatched duck egg that you eat raw).

Foodie that I am I can't wait to hear what people have to share about eating 'different' things in Phoenix... I've wanted to get over to Alice Cooper's sports bar - Wings of Mass destruction etc..Coop's Entrees and Appetizers Menu (http://www.alicecooperstown.com/menupages/coops_menu.html - broken link)

I had a Kobe Beef hot dog in a Pretzel Bun at Elements - Chef Beau MacMillan lunch offering - came with assorted condiments - pretty good! But not that ' exotic ' ...

I don't know much about "strange" food in Phoenix, but there's a restaurant called Boca Tacos y Tequila, in Tucson, which has sold python, alligator, elk, kangaroo, rattlesnake, turtle and some other uncommon menu items.

They were going to sell African lion tacos, but I remember reading they decided against it at the last minute. (I don't recall the reason why.)

An article about it is here.

Not weird, but unusual is Chino Bandito. Two locations. Chinese/Mexican food. WAY better than it sounds. Really.

On the weird front: python at D'Vine in Mesa (actually quite good). "Parts and pieces" at hong kong gourmet in Mesa, which turned out to be mildly pickled pig ears and tails. No thanks. Chicken or duck feet - available at most dim sum places. Rocky Mountain Oysters at The Stockyards in Phoenix - they are NOT from the sea. . Ostrich, beefalo and buffalo meats are regularly available in retail shops.

But what do I know - I ate BBQ'd scorpions in Thailand!
