In many neighborhoods south and west of the 10....
On the west side between the 17 and the 101 south of say..Bethany Home Road. Thats north and south of the 10.
Some parts of Mesa
If you stay in Scottsdale you should be safe...But you will miss so much of what makes Phoenix special.

South Phoenix, West Chandler on Baseline by the freeway and mall. Just take a grocery shopping trip into the Safeway on Baseline and Kyrene. You have to go through metal detectors to grab a loaf of bread.

But, large cities everywhere have this, it's to be expected in some areas.

I just got back from a week long vacation in Phoenix....I really like the area, and it seems like a real nice place to be even in the heat. I did see ALOT of graffiti though, on street signs, buildings, even semi-trucks.....probably the most I have seen in one city but it is all good

What part of Phx were you in? I've never seen any graffiti in Phx. The people I know that have visited there have all to told me how clean the city was. Are you sure you didn't visit Los Angeles? lol

There is a little gang related art on the walls of the industrial parts of town, a little bit noticed while riding down camelback rd...but other than that, cleanest city other than portland or Seattle, in fact, maybe a little cleaner than Portlands North East part of the city (all that rain probably doesnt let the paint dry there)

That is a rough area. Still, there are those kinds of areas everywhere around town. Pretty much everything over 20 years old is potentially bad. Maybe everything built since 2005 is questionable too, since half of it is foreclosures and rentals. Stick to the tony master planned communities with strong HOAs if you want to avoid graffiti and the riff-raff.
