According to this PDF:

It looks like there are talks to unify the RPTA (Mesa) and Tempe divisions into one, unifying all ops in the East Valley.

I wonder, does anyone have an opinion on this? One thing that both divisions share in common is that they have a largely common fleet consisting of New Flyer and NABI buses (mostly C40LFRs and XX-LFW LNGs). I hope that with combined ops that they can provide better service in Gilbert. Gilbert is mostly served by the RPTA division, except for the Elliot route which is operated by the Tempe division.

Too much unrelated information there to weed through. I don't know that service will get better in Gilbert just because they do this; there are a lot of route changes that are being looked at all over the system. Haven't looked into the information on that yet.

If consolidation will improve transit service and put more busses on the lesser-served routes I think it might be worth a try.

Default Side Effects?

As of right now, RPTA (Mesa) and Tempe have a different CBA. Although they are the same union, last years strike in Tempe and Phoenix went largely unnoticed by the staff at RPTA. Wonder if a merger could possibly put a Valleywide service strike into play?
