There is historical data to support this. The Southern Baptist convention which comprises the majority of residents in the Southern United States used the church to endorse racism and segregation and the church has a well known history of this. I didn't write these articles or create these events.

Again you are assuming that conservatives are Southerners and Baptists. I can assure you that neither my wife nor I are Baptists nor Southerners. We are Californians and Catholic and certainly not very religious. It would be like me saying that all liberals are Atheists.

I am Pentecostal, Anglo with a healthy dose of Comanche...(my great, great, granddaddy was Quaanah Parker....or so I am told. keep in mind that a big chunk of West TX, and SW OK is related to him)
My lovely wife is Hispanic, my two stunningly beautiful daughters are mixed and have talked to..( new term for dating I think) Anglo, Hispanic, and African American boys....and we couldn't care less.
Race doesn't matter to us...character does.

And we are conservative. But we get along with everyone....because that is the right thing to do and the best way to live.

Doesn't mean I don't express my views, but I have found that I like people of all stripes, and find good in most folks......(most...not necessarily all...there are some real hard to get along with folks out there)

You are just like us except for our religion and we have a son and daughter instead of 2 daughters.

We're an interracial couple in Phoenix - white/passing and SE Asian. The only times we've ever gotten side-eyed are in heavily LDS areas of Gilbert (I wouldn't recommend moving to out there anyway, not unless you want to live in neighborhoods where foreclosures outnumber families, and enjoy a one-hour morning commute into Phoenix/Scottsdale.)

We've never had problems beyond that - welcome!

As an aside, the Confederate presence in southern Arizona -- mostly around Tucson -- was relative short-lived; Union volunteers from California kicked the Texans out fairly early in the war.

Welcome to the southwest!

I've never had any issues and I've dated the rainbow out here. Hispanic women, black women, Asians...etc. Never been a problem. As I've said before, it's not worth buying into the stereotypes of certain places.

I grew up in Marin County in California, the bastion of tolerance, in a very well-to-do, upper crust town. The people around were all wealthy, mostly upper-class liberals, liberals that absolutely LOVED minorities, people would often talk up how they had strongly supported the Civil Rights movement and on and on....they especially LOVED black people......they just didn't want them living in their neighborhood, or shopping at the same stores. Really they preferred to see minorities primarily on television or out in about when they drove down to San Francisco on the weekend.

I will say that to this day, of all the places I've traveled across the U.S., by far the most racist place I've ever been to was Boston. I've never heard so many people openly uttering racial slurs and talking down to others based on ethnicity or cultural heritage as I witnessed there.

There is plenty of bigotry here, but I've noticed more aimed at anyone appearing hispanic than AA. However, it exists w/ AA as well. I'm not sure it'd be comparable to where you are from, but it does exist. I think that Chandler/Ahwatukee area would be a good area b/c of the influx of tech/educated peeps. A lot more international people w/ Intel, etc. Tempe would probably be ok. Scottsdale I think is more interested in your material appearance than your ethnicity. Phoenix - there are def diverse and accepting areas. I've noticed around the Glendale/Central areas are good.

I think the only place you have to be careful is in parts of Mesa particularly east Mesa near Apache Junction. It can be very conservative and almost Southern like.

I never stated conservatives were limited to Southerners and Baptists. However, the vast majority of Southerners and Baptists are conservative. There is strong evidence to support this. Look at voting data. Examine the Southern Baptist Convention's own published tenets. Examine the Civil Rights period and which states and religious organization opposed the Civil Rights movement. Examine these organization's published views on gay marriage, abortion and medical marijuana. [mod cut-- personal]
