I'm not finding much info online but we're looking at this area to move closer to DH's work (cutting 1 hour commute down to about 10 minutes). Does anybody live in this area or know much about the safety, family friendlyness, etc? If we don't end up in that area we'll most likely move to Tempe. Thanks!

I had to look it up to find out what area you were talking about. Their HOA has a website, which is interesting. I know someone who lives there; in terms of safety, it seems okay-- this person wouldn't live there if he didn't feel safe. That said, if Tempe is an option for you, I'd look there. In either place, you are looking at older homes if The Trails is your price range, but I would choose Tempe over south Scottsdale in general. I can't help being a bit biased, I've lived in both cities, but Tempe for much longer.

Thanks for your input! It seems to be a slightly newer area, probably why I didn't find much information. Tempe is definitely on our radar and would be a 20 minute or less commute. We're renters, we'll likely be moving again late next year. I'm so tired of renting but it is what it is. I've been watching the rental market for the last year or so to see what's out there. The real challenge is finding something that isn't a student rental and is more updated and better taken care of for a family.

I don't know what "slightly newer" means, they are very likely newer than the small single family homes in the surrounding area (which date to the 50's), but would still qualify as "older" (let's say more than 20 years old). There are some homes in southwest Scottsdale that you might look at, I drove up 68th St from Curry Rd in Tempe to Indian School Rd on Sunday, and saw some nicely maintained areas.

Yup. My former in-laws bought a patio home there in the mid 80's. As of 15 yrs ago, it was a very quiet, well-maintained area. No idea what it's like now.

Yes, by newer I did mean 80's as opposed to 50's. Driving in that area there do appear to be patches of areas that are nice. My husband runs in the area and has been scoping it out to the East of where he works. I don't know very much about what's to the West of there but I know there are certain areas he doesn't want to be in. He's on East Oak St. I'm going to keep my eye out for what comes up in the next couple of months in Tempe, seems like this is prime time for rentals to open up.
