According to this article:
Gila River tribe may hold vote on South Mountain Freeway effort - News from The Arizona Republic

A possible new referendum on moving the South Mountain Freeway onto tribal land may put it up for re-vote. This movement comes from a dozen landowners on the Gila River Indian Reservation, who have gathered over 1200 signatures from residents of the reservation.

I don't understand why the Tribe can't allow the freeway to be placed on tribal land, much like the 101 on the Salt River/Pima tribal land. I could imagine that the SR/P Tribe cut some sort of deal with the state and feds to permit passage. I would think it benefits everyone involved.

There was a long and troubled history of the Pima leg of the 101. Originally, that was going to be built on private land, ADOT bought (through eminent domain) dozens of houses. I remember that somewhere in all that the Indians blocked Pima Road for a time. Ultimately, they agreed to put it on tribal land, and ADOT had to SELL a bunch of houses... Hopefully this one will work out, and the road can be built on the tribal land instead of the Pecos alignment.

if they don't like that alignment than do what makes sense with an I-10 interchange and put it at the 101 ........ if they don't like it, let's just rethink the whole route then and instead of essentially giving their casino freeway access from the 51st ave alignment, push it back to what makes sense from a traffic and true bypass standpoint

Do you mean the 202? The 101 doesn't intersect with I-10 there. Pecos is aligned with the 202.

Please no tollways.

Tax money is already allocated to build this segment of the 202 Loop, making it a tollroad would be the same as double taxation.

proposed westside interchange ....... there were 3 possible alignments for consideration and the one they chose made seemingly the least amount of sense in most considerations

it would be the jumping off point going W->E to bypass the city .... doesn't make too much sense to align it at 51st avenue as opposed to the 101

Tax money is allocated for the Pecos Road alignment, not the Gila River Indian Reservation alignment. If the Gila River Indian Reservation votes on the alignment through the reservation, then tolls would make sense.

This is the footnote to the MAG transportation plan that had funding approved w/prop 400 in 2004

what has happened is that there have been budget shortfalls and they are trying to cut back the project costs - now looking at near 55th avenue for the I-10 alignment, going from 10 lanes to 8, etc
