The great deal probably had many offers, and in most cases $5k over list on a $130k won't get the deal.

I had clients lose a bid offering $12k over on a $100k home.

What one has to do, and this is the advice I gave my clients in that price range, is to determine what the home is worth to them, and what they can afford. Make the offer based on that, whether that is 20% below list or 20% above list; and stick to that price if the come back asking for highest and best.
