"Oklahoma" was filmed near Sonoita and Nogales, because it looked more like Oklahoma was supposed to look.

A real stinker, recognizable for the Central Avenue and downtown Phoenix locale: "What Planet Are You From?", Gary Shandling, Annette Bening.

Then there's the Superstitions in the background and Sun Devil Stadium in "Jerry Maguire".

CC & Company, Tucson. When that came out in 71 I thought to myself, "I'd like to live in that climate, someday", never knowing until after the move here that it was filmed here.

Most biker movies were filmed in Arizona or the SW, including parts of Easy Rider.

The original Vacation.

They also filmed at the Cardinals training facility in Tempe.

Wasn't the original Planet of the Apes filmed at a very new Lake Powell? Well, I guess that's not "near Phoenix" but sort of!

The concert scene in the 1977 film A Star is Born with Barbra Streisand & Kris Kristofferson was filmed at Sun Devil stadium. My brother-in-law was a grip on the picture and we enjoyed watching the filming from back stage.

Tombstone. It's actually not that close to Phoenix but heck it's Arizona. Loved that movie.

I loved all of the movies mentioned above...I must add "Under the Hula Moon" because I was in it It was pretty "substandard" to say the least.

Psycho would be the most critically acclaimed.

"Terminal Velocity" (1994) with Charlie Sheen, Nastassja Kinski and James Gandofini filmed some scenes at Patriot Square, Lake Pleasant and an apartment building (name unknown to me) that is located on Central Ave, N of McDowell Rd with their patios set out from the living areas and about ten stories?
I THINK also the APS generating station at Rural Rd and University Dr was also used in a scene .

Murphy's Romance, filmed in and around Florence. Watching it right now. I'd just left a job in Florence the year before, so the area was familiar to me when I first watched the movie in 1985, and still is.
