I just caused a scene at my doctor's office and the whole waiting room got to watch. Appt. was for 9:15am. I got there at 9:10. At 9:30 I went to ask if I would be seen in the next five min. They said they couldn't tell me. I complained that this happens every time and that I needed to get back to work (or back to my laptop to whine about it here). Lady said she'd check with the office mgr. to see if any other doctor could get me in right away. Office mgr. came back and said it could 15-30 min. I said, "Then why was my appt. at 9:15?" She didn't like that one bit and suggested I reschedule for the first appt. of the day. I asked what good that would do, since they don't seem ever able to keep appointments.

In a raised tone, I reassured her and all the other staffers watching that I liked that doctor and that everyone in that office is very nice and helpful, but that they need to respect my time, just as I show up for all appointments on time. I told her it looked like they wouldn't be too impacted by my going elsewhere. She asked if I wanted to reschedule. I said no and walked out.

Now, how do I find a good doctor around south Cave Creek/Desert Ridge who keeps his appointments? I need a script for Ambien for two upcoming trans-Pacific flights. And I don't think I want my blood pressure checked after this episode.

Dream on! I go to Algondones for what I want when I don't want to deal with the Dr. They will sell you pretty much anything that is not narcotic over the counter with no prescription. And it will probably cost less than your co pay.

Well, since time is an issue with me, driving 7 hrs. round trip is not going to help me.

I understand there are some docs around who charge a large, flat fee - like a retainer - and then provide much higher level of service. Maybe someone knows of one.

It's good to make a scene when something like that arises. A patient's time is precious. They need to schedule appts. in respect to that. I'm sure Arizonariverfan will be around shortly to explain his take on it. Ha. It's a patriarchal system type thing--"I'm worth the wait" type of deal. Maybe all the patients should get up and leave if they wait past 30 minutes.

The "concierge" physician is the concept discussed upthread. I've seen ads for a few, not necessarily in that area.

I don't have any recommendations for you, sorry. I know the frustration you felt, though. I don't have those issues with my present dr., but remember a former physician from many years ago who would schedule multiple appointments for the same time.. which I discovered when I'd been waiting a long time one day and started asking others in the waiting room what time their appointment was...

My old doctor in VA left his practice to become a concierge or boutique physician. I got an invite to pay $1500 per year for 24/7 access plus cash-only payments. He and his two partners would give top notch service and cell phone numbers and help with insurance reimbursements, but took cash only. The membership fee was FSA-expensable. I'm not ready for that, as I don't need a doctor very often and can probably get my scripts through other means if I need to go that route.

I've never had this problem...I've always been seen within 10 minutes of my appointment I'd say.

Check out Parkway Medical on 64th St and Greenway. You can see a doctor quickly, I have never had to wait. I have also done walk-ins during their "urgent care" hours and saw a doctor quickly to get a script refilled.

If you have the time, make a trip down to Rocky Pointe. I got my Ambien there for about $0.20/pill.
