Speaking of sinks, here is something else I don't get...

Do people actually like the split sinks? I can't see a use for that...maybe back in the day when you'd wash thing by hand, wash in one side and rinse in the other, but I'm pretty sure people use the dishwasher now, especially if you're buying a new house. I always found those sinks annoying because you usually can't fit large pans and pots in them, especially if they have a long handle, or large dinner plates. Give me one of those large single sinks any day.

Gee, I guess I'm out of the loop. I don't own a dishwasher. I wash everything by hand.

IMHO white is just so fugly in a kitchen. My mother has white kitchen appliances; everything she buys new is white. I can't understand it, but it's her kitchen and her money. Maybe it's because of my age (26), but I associate an updated desirable kitchen as one with preferably stainless appliances, but black is nice as well. And while we're at it, darker colored cabinets.

When I was apartment hunting, all the old white appliances showed stains and wear and tear. But the old black appliances didn't look as bad. Most of the brand new/renovated apartments had nice darker colored kitchens, and it reflected in the price. If I ever buy a house I would overlook all the ones with white kitchens unless it was in my budget to renovate. It just looks tacky and cheap to me.

I like the split sinks, but ours is a rather large one. I wash the dishes, rinse them and place them in the other side for my wife to take out and dry.

What can be washed in the dishwasher goes in there, but there are many things that can't go in the dishwasher so I wash them by hand.

We have a perfectly nice black colored dishwasher and I never use it.
I never let the dishes build up to justify using the dishwasher.
I prefer to wash dishes as I use them.

Concerning white appliances, like white walls in your home, it shows a general lack of desire for color or a fear of it.

I was a paint store manager for close to ten years. So many people were afraid of color it was bizarre.

The question I received most often was "what if I don't like it after I paint it? "

It's paint people!! You can paint over it!

Because they feed off of whatever the current trend is. I think smooth finished fridges look nice, even white.

I used to have red appliances - loved them! Who cares what is trendy? (Unless you're trying to sell your home - then trendy is a huge plus)

We don't usually let dishes build up later, but we semi-wash them and then place them in the dishwasher. When the dishwasher fills up, then we run it.
