Isn't Old Town essentially non-residential? I think of Old Town as being the faux-cowboy part along Scottsdale road.

what some call Old Town Scottsdale, a phrase developed by the visitors' bureau 20 or more years ago, I call downtown Scottsdale and it's a very good "center"....very walkable, a few regular grocery stores on the near periphery, low-budget shopping up to the-sky's-the-limit....and there is a wide variety of housing close in, too, ranging across the scale in price....

other "centers" include the downtown Tempe/ASU area, downtown Phx, and downtown Glendale....density, activity, and walkability will vary greatly...as jukes mentioned, Arcadia is very nice, but doesn't have an obvious center, but some corners there come close....Central and Camelback is not too bad....

but be ready for lower density and fewer pedestrians and bikers than you may be hoping for

OP Are you from OC?

Old Town Scottsdale doesn't make me think of OC at all. Maybe Old Town Tustin on steroids. Bigger. More places to eat and drink. But the shopping is, IMO, tourist oriented. Fun but it's not exactly South Coast Plaza variety-wise. (But you don't shop so forget that, lol.)

Interests? Definitely a lot of Boomers not living the God's Waiting Room life in the Phx area.
