turn OFF your lights if you've pulled off the road so a car doesn't follow you thinking you're on the road....turn ON your lights if you're still on the road so that person barreling down the road behind you into the duststorm has a fighting chance of seeing you

but best to get way off the road!.....

No it's stupid because it's a bunch of hipsters who think they are cool by calling a dust storm a haboob now. This is AZ it's a dust storm or even a dust wall.

So the car behind you who can see you follows you and smashes into the back of your car. You should turn your lights off and pull over to the side of the road until visibilty clears up.

While I suppose it's theoretically possible for someone else to pull off the road and hit another car with its lights off, it's much more likely that they will follow a car with its lights on (which everyone is used to doing going down the road at night) and hit it than to hit a car that had pulled as far off the road as possible (which is what we are taught to do) and had the lights off.

Back to topic.

Thanks for all your responses.I guess its better than a snowstorm where the snow sticks around for about a week on the pavement like furniture.

The only thing that sucks after going through a dust storm is cleaning your pool filters afterwards (if you have a pool) or being caught outside in one. Personally I think they are fun to watch from inside, especially if you can see them approaching from out your window. They give the sky an eerie glow and then darken it for a while and you can watch the pam trees sway.

If you are coming from snow you won't even blink an eye at our dust monster. They are no biggie. Just sort of cool to watch. You'll love the valley of the sun!
