Hello!

Just out of curiosity does anyone know of a green grocer or anywhere to get a large variety of healthy produce? I went to safeway and though the fruit was pretty decent I the Veggies were sparse and not in great shape.

I know I could try whole foods... But generally the $ for "organic" Veggies is a bit steep.

I live on Chandler but am willing to travel to Tempe or Gilbert if it means great produce at reasonable prices!

Thank you in advance for all your help!

We LOVE Sprouts for fresh produce.. There is one on Alma School and Queen Creek Road in Chandler. I'm sure there are others in the Chandler area as well.

Trader Joe's at McClintock and Gudalupe may also have what you need.

I have not been there but have heard great things about the Mesa Superstition Farmers Market from several people. 4755 E Main St, Mesa, AZ 85205. Definitely worth checking out if you live in the East Valley.

In addition to Sprouts, (which I also love), you may want to consider getting produce from Bountiful Baskets, which is a local produce co-op. (They have three pick-up locations in Chandler.) Each basket is usually a mix of 50% fruit and 50% vegetables and you get a huge amount of bang for your buck. There's no picking or choosing; you get whatever they're giving out each week, but it's always very fresh, locally-grown produce. The cost is $15 for a regular basket or $25 for a basket of 100% certified organic.

We get a basket every 2 weeks or so. The produce is so fresh a lot of it actually lasts that long and there is so much of it that it keeps us all that time. It's a lot of fun to see what our "surprises" are each time. Sometimes I have to hit the internet for recipes, because there is an item I've never bought before, but that's fun too. We eat healthier and cheaper because of it.

Produce is great at sprouts.

But...I would kill for a real tomato like the ones we grew in Illinois. Why is it so hard to find those? Tomatoes around here are all hard, not juicy, taste like cardboard. I even tried to grow my own, but they weren't much better.

You may want to wait until tomorrow to check out Sprout's. Wednesdays are their "double ad days". Their sale week goes from Wednesdays to Wednesdays, so on Wednesdays you get the benefit of paying this past week's sale prices, and you also get the new week's sale prices. In other words, on Wednesdays, the sales overlap.

Happy shopping!
