Pool Fence - Sell or Give Away? (Phoenix: rent, house)

The house we just bought has a nice fence around the pool but the yard would look much better without it and we don't have kids. My problem is that it's concreted into the ground in the posts that would otherwise be in the dirt (no patio under those). I have no idea how to remove it. Do I pay to have it removed, offer it up for free to someone willing to remove for me, or do I try to sell it and have the buyer remove? I guess I just don't know if there's any value in it. What do you recommend? Thanks!

Not much value in it...if you don't want it then you can dig it up and take it to a scrap yard...I think I got about $40 when we dropped ours off.

That being said...just make sure you are in compliance with local codes and no neighborhood kids can get into your backyard. You wouldn't want a lawsuit on your hands.

We're in the process of removing ours, which sounds very similar. Hubby is going out every night or so and hacksawing it down, a panel at a time, cutting through the fence either side of each post, then digging/ leveraging up the concrete lump at the foot of each post. It's probably going to take 2-3 weeks all told, but he's enjoying the different exercise (he usually runs/ cycles) and is finding it quite satisfying. When he's done, we plan to take the metal to a scrapyard. Nice to hear they might actually pay us - I'll be pleased if they just take it for free, so we don't have to pay municipal dump rates!

But yes, check the rules - we don't have any kids under 6, have a 6ft block wall, and a gate that self-closes and latches (and has the latch waaaaaay up high, where I can hardly reach it).

Darn. I was hoping the scrap value was at least a couple hundred bucks so it'd be worth someone's time to take it for free. I guess it's finally time to buy a sawzall!

Rent (or buy because a man is not a real man without one) a sawzall from Home Depot, buy a couple metal cutting blades and have at it. (use eye protection)

Someone would absolutely come and get it for the metal, the question is, can you get them to dig out the concrete, or just cut it off flush..

That's what I was hoping for. Honestly I don't care either way. I'll just throw some rocks over either the stump or the hole that's left. Maybe I'll throw it up on Craigslist and see what happens.

In most cities it's the law that you have to have a safety fence around the pool. If a child should ever find a way into the pool and drown that homeowner would be in a lot of legal troubles. Our neighbors in Phoenix could not sell their house with pool until a pool fence was installed.

Did they not have a block wall though? My yard is surrounded by a 6' block wall and our only access gate is locked.

Yes they have a 6' block wall. Still had to have a pool fence with a self locking gate.
