To head off the snide comments on what I must mean by "cream stick", this is what I mean:

It seems these might be called "cream filled long johns" in Phoenix (which should prompt more snide thoughts in my mind but oh well...)

Cream sticks are quite common in the Midwest, but I've not yet found one in Phoenix. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, can't find these in AZ. You can easily have a donut shop or grocery store bakery make them for you though. The "sticks" are commonly found here, they just have to do the rest. They don't make them as well, but its better than nothing.

What??? You can find them at Bashas. I am sure other donut shops and bakeries have them as well. Just tell them you want cream filled instead of custard filled (most places carry both).

I am from the Midwest, and I never heard them called "cream sticks". Maybe that's why you can't find them. Ask for cream filled long john.

Thanks for the tip. I have to say I've never been inside a Basha's so I'll check. Though, I've asked for "cream-filled long johns" once I realized that's what they were called around here, and places always react like I'm crazy for asking. Though, I admit I've never actually asked them to make one for me (and they've certainly never offered!)

LaMar's sells them. They have three kinds - filled with white fluff, chocolate fluff, and Bavarian Cream. They call them "LaMar's Bars."

If you're looking at grocery stores like Fry's or Albertsons, the reason you might not be seeing them is that they sell out of popular flavors during the day, and stuff the leftover donuts into 12-packs at night.. (so the display case might be empty when you go).. if you go to the Albertson's by my house after about three in the afternoon, all they have is boxes of leftovers, the displays are all usually empty..

But Basha's is my number 1 goto place for grocery-store donuts - they're usually bigger & better there.. (richer chocolate & fresher-tasting donuts)..

Thank you everyone. Lamar's isn't too far from the Winco where I usually get groceries so I stopped and got a "Lamar Bar with White Fluff". Haven't ate it yet but I have to say it's almost the most expensive donut I've ever purchased at $2.05. (Most expensive was from an Amish donut stand at the Kidron Auction in Ohio). Oh well you crave, you pay.
