Isn't it only a $50 fine? And that's assuming you have a real awful neighbor that turns you in and that someone will actually be enforcing this on Christmas Day. This "scam to ruin Christmas" is a non issue. Burn 'em if you got 'em.

ADEQ is the grinch, apparently. I bet they're the ones behind all the tall people in Scottsdale, too!

Yes, I'm sure ADEQ is deadset on ruining Christmas.... It has nothing to do with the stagnant air mass we're experiencing, which is giving us this weather that everyone brags about.... Everything isn't a government conspiracy.

If the gunk hanging over Downtown I saw a couple of days ago when coming out of the Dream Draw heading south is any indication, there is indeed a legitimate reason.

Our gas fire pit will be in heavy use tonight while I smell the smoke from my neighbor who ignores the ban every year and has a wood burning fire with this family. Best of both worlds, we have gas fire, smell of a wood burning fire from my neighbor, and he gets the ticket if he gets caught.

Merry Christmas everyone!

The problem is, it always has to be on Christmas, regardless of the actual air quality. Even if the air quality were slightly worse some other time of year, only on Christmas the ADEQ has to issue an HPA.

That's just not true. HPAs go out all winter long - the warm, nice weather years are the worst because of the inversions are more common in those years.

Precisely. To think that ADEQ has some evil plot to "ruin Christmas" is ridiculous.

And, of course, what would the damages be? Boo- hoo, I didn't get to have my wood fire outside (or inside) on Christmas. Yes, that would impress the court. Not.

It's going to be 72 tomorrow. I think most people can go without requiring a heat source for the afternoon....
