I'm considering moving from LA to either Phoenix or Tucson, and having such a theatre is important to me, although I know that recent Oscar winning films such as 'The Queen', 'The Hurt Locker' and 'No Country For Old Men' will eventually wind up in various movieplexes from time to time.

Thanks!
No, I think an art house movie theater would struggle in most valley cities. I think downtown would be a good spot. Surprise is families and retirees. You need a more hipster crowd.

I don't think it's a smart business investment in many parts of the country. With things like Netflix, cheap big screen tv's with excellent quality and audio to match, and portable streaming devices, I think many people are staying home to watch what they want/when they want from the comfort of their own home.

Agreed. There is a paradigm shift from watching movies in a theater as compared to watching them at home. Domestic ticket sales have dropped 11% over the past 10 years while revenue has increased because of rising prices. A great spot to put a new theater is in China as ticket sales are up 27% from a year ago. See Fewer Americans Go to the Movies - WSJ .

Assuming above average acoustics, a home theater system annihilates a traditional theater system where you pay $8 per ticket. I use to go to a theater all the time. I might go once a year. I cannot stand the luke-warm theater sound quality.

In 2014, a $1300 retail projectors has the same performance of a $10K projector just 5-7 years ago.
