Exactly. Comparing the actions of one man to the actions of the state legislature is foolish. This will have no impact on anything.

I think too much is being made of this story. First the fallen police officer was an employee of the City of Phoenix, not Scottsdale. Second, a moment of silence is more appropriate at the beginning or end of a meeting, not during the middle of the public comment section. Though, a minute of silence could have been done in the speakers allotted time. The mayor of Scottsdale was caught in a politically incorrect moment but it was not intended and people are overreacting to it.

Did not realize the issue was that the officer was not an employee of the Scottsdale police dept like it should make a difference. Thanks for shedding some light on issue no matter how dim that light may be.

It makes sense to me as I don't put the murder of a police officer over the murder of anyone else. If there's to be a moment of silence in Scottsdale for a murdered Phoenix police officer, I would expect a moment of silence for anyone murdered in Phoenix.

The murder of a police officer is more then an average citizen because they are the last line of defense. Detective Hobbs gave his life so people like Thorton couldn't come in and wreak havoc on Scottsdale. [personal, baiting]

It isn't that their life means more, it's that they died in service to the community.

[personal, orphaned],god forbid you have to call 911 one day and expect an officer to put his life on the line to protect you.Because that is what they do day in and day out. There ultimate sacrifice dying in the line of duty protecting you and me should warrant a moment of silence at the least.

Part of my point is that it wouldn't be important enough for a moment of silence. It would be, at the most, a blurb on the evening news and the paper and you wouldn't care one way or the other. It's not your fault. It's just how society is. I think it's important when anyone is killed be that person a police officer or a civilian. Actually, I find it interesting that so many people care so much about police officers but will not utter a peep when police officers kill innocent civilians (happens all over the country on a regular basis). There's never a moment of silence for those people.
