My husband and I are relocating to Scottsdale and he will be working at the Scottsdale airport. He is used to traveling 30 miles each way to work so that is not the most important factor. We are looking for a ONE story 3 car garage 4 bedroom 3 bath home in a safe area. We have no children at home so schools are not a factor but not a retirement community either. I am an entrepreneur so networking is important to me and proximity to shopping, restaurants etc. We are not looking for the country club scene so probably not Scottsdale but thinking Chandler maybe. Open to suggestions... Thank you.

what budget would you like to be in?....is a newer or older house important?....lot size important?....

Chandler to Scotts airport would be a drag every day, even for somebody used to a long commute....would be nice to be near work as not all of Scotts is a country club scene!

EDIT: this'll probably get moved to the Phx subforum as I see you made a post there about almost the same thing....

Chandler is going to be closer to an hour's drive (and maddening!) from the airpark at peak times..

Depending on where in Chandler, it could be. But I'm about a mile from the Chandler border, near the 101, and it would not take me that long.

I prefer the McCormick Ranch area but you may not like the "older" homes and it is not the glitz and flash of North Scottsdale...sounds like you would be best off looking at McDowell Mountain Ranch area and surrounding neighborhoods...North of Cactus/ East of Scottsdale Road should give you a decent area to look.

If you don't mind houses which are 15+ years old, there are plenty of nice areas in Scottsdale close by that have shopping but are not part of the Country Club feel (as in lots of tourists, traffic, winter residents, artsy shopping & resorts) or just to the west in NE Phoenix (between Tatum and SR51) where there are plenty of nice areas that are still close to the Air Park, and also pretty close to the center of Phoenix for networking. If you want a newer construction, then far North Phoenix or Peoria is a lot closer than Chandler, but most larger (+3000 ft) houses are two story in new build areas.

I agree with others that Chandler should be pretty much off your radar. Scottsdale is lovely and not all "glitzy". The one story requirement will present some challenges, but not insurmountable. And your networking requirements will be much better satisfied in Scottsdale than in Chandler, IMO.

You are much more likely to find a four bedroom one story home in an older neighborhood than a newer one.

You might look in that area west of Scottsdale Rd to 44th St, south of Bell down to Thunderbird or so. A lot of it is in Phoenix, but has a Scottsdale ZIP code. The Phoenix ZIP code part on the west end of that area is fine too.
