Scottybrown, digging used to be a hobby of mine, but as far as specifics in your locale, I can't help. I dug a little out in Utah, and found ghost towns to be a good place to go to there. It is a fun hobby to be sure. It was my hobby for about 20 years, but I had to stop when the body refused to co-operate anymore. You might try to find a Platt map of an area that has abandoned houses in the metro area, and after getting permission from the owner, you might get lucky there. Some of the old maps show all the original structures and their locations.

Good luck, and enjoy!
