You just got done saying there's nothing to do or see in Phoenix, sixth largest city in the U.S. and close to some of the scenic wonders of the world, and you're thinking about going to Galveston for vacation? All I remember is a beach full of sea gull poop and staring at the oil derricks out in the Gulf. I hope there's no hurricane when you go.

No, just stopping over for a day or so on a tour of America. I would love to experience a hurricane though! I have seen pretty much everything there is to see in Arizona at least twice. I still say Phoenix (the city itself, not the surrounding region) is a bore with little other than over the top resorts as attractions.

Why is Seattle so high on this list. Its crowded, dirty, choke full of traffic, no awesome horizon or vista views and has a LOT of ghetto areas. This is not the TV show Frasier when 5 dollar Lattes are sipped by everyone.

IMO, Phoenix and surrounding areas are at the top of our vacation list (at least until we can live there!). While there for 2 weeks in January, EVERY day consisted of a climb, hike, or run. The mornings were beautiful, cool, and crisp while the afternoons were sunny and warm. We climbed the Flat Irons, hiked the White Tanks, South Mountain, Papago Park, Piesta Peak, completed a 5K and an 8K Trail Run. We even drove the short drive to Tucson and hiked in Saguaro National Forest. If you love miles of beaches, then AZ may not be the place to vacation for you, but for us, it's perfect! In just over 2 weeks we'll be back (only for a quick weekend) and cannot wait to climb Camelback (which we missed last time as the trail was still under construction - it opened the day we left for home).

I can say good things and bad and rotten about the several places I've lived in my life. Each location has its own attributes that attract certain people. I often see Chicago beat up on this forum. Now, I've never been to Chicago, but I have known people from there and they LOVE it.
This is true, and I am sure that most people that live where they live live there because they like it; otherwise life is way too short, and if not they should move to somewhere that makes them at least alittle happy and proud to call home, as I am sure Phoenix does for people who choose to move there. As far as your comment about Chicago, there is alot to love about that city, despite the knocks on city data.

Why, what's phoenix got to offer that's so spectacular?
Good weather much of the year, some pro sports, and a few top-notch resort hotels, that's about it.
Most people don't actually "do" phoenix, most of them fly in or drive in then drive right out to explore arizona. the same can be done in vegas really except vegas has much more fun stuff without having to go all over the state of nevada for things to do.

Outside of the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam (which I consider a Nevada/Vegas attraction not a Phoenix/Arizona one) what other cool things in Phoenix or Arizona are easily accessible from Las Vegas? Seems you can get to much more from Phoenix than you can from Las Vegas with the exception of the Casinos.

Well knowing that Chicago is in a major decline...less people living there than there were decades ago....it seems that even the inhabitants can't stand it....I always give more weight to the people voting with their feet....wonder how many of them are leaving Chicago and ending up in the Phoenix area?
