Unless it's a high quality, brand name couch, it's just not worth the work. Most couches will only sell between $50-$200. $200 being a full set. Any stains or wear, just throw it out. People like nice looking stuff and since even the lowest income people have financing available, it makes it even harder.
Note that I deleted certain statements because I don't agree, but otherwise, that's pretty accurate, though I would say prices for couches are $100-$300.

Just yesterday, Happ sent me his CL ads via PM. I offered some photo and wording suggestions, but I'm sure he wasn't happy with the price reductions I suggested.

I would also ask, suggest, beg you to donate that couch rather than throw it out! Salvation Army preferred over Goodwill. (Look foir my prior posts to find out why)

Here's an alternative idea - try TurnStyle - Tatum Point AZ Consignment Stores | Consignment Store AZ

I had some furniture and quality dishes, glasses, etc. that I wanted to sell. I wasn't in the mood for the hassle of a garage sale and Craigslist scares the dickens out of me. I took my stuff over to TurnStyle. They were really wonderful. You can bring information and a photo of larger items to find out what they estimate they might sell it for. You can get 45% of the sales price in cash (check) or 55% if you want to use it in the store. I was very OK with 45% because that meant no hassles with a garage sale, a fairly appraised price, little risk, and not worrying about needing to pack heat when the person showed up to pick up the couch.

If you are moving into the Phoenix area and looking for furniture, lamps, clothes, wall hangings, decorative items and clothes - check out TurnStyle first. A lot of people from out of town don't realize you can do very well in Phoenix without ever paying retail prices. (Anna's Linens, Tuesday Morning, Ross's, Big Lots... ) Add to that the fine consignment stores like TurnStyle and My Sister's Attic and you've got options! Another one of the things I tell people when they ask me (in the middle of the summer) "Why do you live in Phoenix?!
